Teen Services: Behind-the-Wheel Training
After completing the classroom portion, students can begin behind-the-wheel (BTW) instruction with one of our licensed driving instructors. This hands-on training focuses on applying classroom knowledge to real-world driving situations, helping students build safe and confident driving habits.
Program Requirements
To begin behind-the-wheel training, students must:
- Be at least 15 years old
- Have a valid Wisconsin instruction permit
- Have completed the 30-hour classroom course (either traditional or online)
Training Details
Students must complete a total of 50 hours of supervised driving, which includes:
- 12 hours of behind-the-wheel instruction with a licensed instructor (included in the program)
- 10 hours of night driving, counted as part of the total 50 hours
- The remaining hours should be completed with an eligible supervising adult, such as a parent or guardian.
Once the student is eligible, an instructor will be assigned and will contact the student (or parent) to schedule driving sessions.
